Spark A Life With Art

With this new statement: My artistic philosophy is rooted in community, connection, and the quiet belief that creativity can stitch people back together. My journey began in 2017 with a simple Mother’s Day gift — paints, brushes, and blank canvases placed in my hands by my children. What was meant to be a gentle distraction opened a doorway instead. Color became a language. Texture became truth. And the world around me shifted, revealing new ways of seeing, feeling, and belonging.
Moved by this transformation, I began gathering children in my Brighton neighborhood for informal art sessions — small circles of curiosity and color where young people could explore who they were becoming. When the opioid epidemic struck our community, shaking the lives of families I knew, including my own, the purpose of this work deepened. I witnessed how art could become a lifeline for young people standing at the edge of dangerous choices. Through my own family’s experience, I learned that creativity offers a place for the unsayable to land — a place where children can speak in shape and shade when words feel too heavy or too few.
I believe that every art form mirrors the world around us, celebrating the cultures, identities, and stories that make our community whole. Each piece I create carries that belief forward.
